math problems

* I haven't been able to figure out how to create a new thread on this blog so... *

I've been reading about probability related concepts (random variables, variances, std dev) and economic models (cash flow, IRR, NPV, disc cash flow, ROI). Are there math problems on the PMP exam?

  1. Matt - in the week 1 recommended reading it says a calculator will be provided as part of the online test. From this, I would assume the answer is yes...expect math problems of some sort on the test.

    Hope this is helpful,

    Jeff

  2. The exam is not suppose to be a test of your math skills - but there will most likely be math questions, these questions will attempt to test your ability to remember those formulas (the probability concepts and economic models you mentioned) presented in the PMBOK.

The PMP Exam software has a calculator application built into it (as per PMP Handbook). I have heard that some test centers provide calculators as you are not allowed to carry your own calculator inside the test area.

I would like to throw another question out here for the group - as we study can we gather and group the Formulas with EXAMPLES that we run across? If everyone posts one or two we should be able to put together a one-sheet MATH study guide quickly. I will volunteer to harvest the examples and put them in a document.
